A recently released update of Michael Bourne’s famous male “Swan Lake”, now in superb High Definition !

Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake is a piece of ballet-influenced contemporary dance choreographed by Matthew Bourne that was first staged at Sadler's Wells theatre in London in 1995. The longest running ballet in London's West End and on Broadway, it has enjoyed two successful tours in the UK and thrilled audiences in Los Angeles, Europe, Australia and Japan.

The ballet is based loosely on the Russian romantic ballet Swan Lake, from which it takes the music by Tchaikovsky and the broad outline of the plot. Stylistic inspiration also came from the Alfred Hitchcock film The Birds. The ballet is particularly known for having the parts of the swans danced by men rather than women.

Excellent production. Bourne's choreography and general direction of movement and gesture really deserves and benefits from the general "closer" nature of the video production. This is because you can see how finely detailed it is. The Swans are almost unreal Music and sound excellent quality. Controversial conception but it makes a treat, very dynamic, hardly a static moment. Full of wit and knowingness.

« Mise en scéne remarquable. Chorographie irréprochable, originale, surprenante EXTRAordinaire. Une idée novatrice qui fait date. Un enchantement. Une totale réussite. »

Fascinating interpretation/adaptation of the traditional Swan Lake story. Beautifully danced. The choreography was magnificent - it managed humour, disdain, emotion and geo-jerking intern. Very involving. Very impressive!

« Extraordinaire. Surprenant. Troublant. »

I really don't know what to say. I'm not particularly fond of classical ballet which, of course, this wasn't, though it often “comes close”. That "comes close" is all-important, transforming any expected experience into something incredibly unique, filled with great humour and wondrous intensity. A new experience for me in "dance" that I must explore more in the future.

« Excellente idée de renouveler ce ballet, auquel il donne beaucoup de force. Excellente innovation et adaptation ‘modernes’. Perfection des danseurs—quel travail ! »

Amazing and a great experience. The Swans are unforgettable and very moving.

« Génial. C’est le premier ballet que je vois et cela ma donne envie d’en voire d’autres. »

Amazing! Enlarged my sense of dance- first ballet I've seen since taking children to Nutcracker.

Sensationally sexual, exploring love and relations in all its forms. Amazing orchestra. Quite the most dramatic production I have seen, it will be hard or impossible to beat!!! Strange how replacing the females by males changes the atmosphere and meaning in all its forms. Delightfully dirty dancing.

An amazingly innovative and creative production. Choreography is exceptional. Very theatrical but retained all the elements of great contemporary dance and the original ballet (traditional) theme of Swan Lake, but with a twist or many twists. Super dancing, costumes, scenery and music.

Outstanding choreography - dancers were marvellous costumes superb! In short, an evening we won't forget.

Incredible staging, choreography and interpretation. The truth is made up of both dancers and actors. There is a lot which is surprising about it, but it's really something to discover! I enjoyed it so much! It has a lot of references to other ballets and movies, very well filmed and a good sound and music interpretation.
