Another delightful production from Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in the heart of London.
When the King of Navarre and his three courtiers forswear all pleasure – particularly of the female variety – in favour of a life of study, the arrival of the Princess of France and her ladies plays havoc with their intentions. Using every kind of verbal gymnastics to poke fun, Shakespeare’s most intellectual comedy is brought to hilarious life in Dominic Dromgoole’s highly entertaining production, rich in visual humour and sexual innuendo. Jonathan Fensom’s knot garden and original music by Claire van Kampen create the framework for an engaging performance by an excellent cast. Filmed live in High Definition and true surround sound.
A very much appreciated production by a “connoisseur” audience. Particularly since over half of them were French. More than one person commented, “You would never see that at the Comédie Française” !
The smoothness of the stage changes was amazing. So many small bits of business made the production delightful and the cast was wonderfully multitalented. It is a superb production!
Can’t see how you could do much better.
The language was delivered in a wonderfully understandable, modern manner with inspired stage business to match. All in all a marvellously paced production that demanded constant but rewarding attention from the audience — worthy of repeated seeing.
An amazing production. All the action was so lively, so lovely, so clever for everyone to remember all those words.
An absolutely excellent production.
Superb company!. What a lovely, wonderful show!
The production is brilliant, but to my mind to elaborate. The words hardly matter with all this exuberance!
Excellent!. I love the dynamic acting from everyone in the cast, the energy, their ability to switch from acting to singing to dancing to mime—in other words totally rounded actors. This is total Theatre!
